Jantar Mantar Delhi

Located in the Parliament Street, South Connaught Circle of New Delhi, Jantar Mantar is a vast observatory built to help and improve upon the studies of time and space as was known. It was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in the year 1724 and forms a part of a collection of five such observatories located in Jaipur, Ujjain, Varanasi and Mathura.

The observatory features several distinct instruments, the most prominent being the Samrat Yantra, a massive sundial that can measure time accurately to within a few seconds. Other notable instruments include the Jai Prakash Yantra (a concave hemisphere used to determine the positions of stars and planets) and the Ram Yantra (a cylindrical instrument used to measure the altitude and azimuth of celestial bodies).

Today, Jantar Mantar in Delhi is a popular tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the different instruments, learn about their functions and historical context, and appreciate the blend of art, science, and architecture that characterizes this unique observatory.
